I give this book 3 stars because I like the story that is set in the past, it is very interesting. The interaction between the nowadays people is a bit weird, Carole left Charlie but it seems that Simon doesn't want her to talk to him, and Charlie is trying to get through to Francheska, who is hurt and doesn't like people, by teasing her? Why does that seem like the wrong approach? It makes the dialogue awkward.

I also don't get how fertile everyone in the 18th century is, they do it once and get pregnant immediately. If it was only 1 person I wouldn't mind, but 3 out of 4 or 5 women mentioned seems a bit over the top...
