This was an okay book, I liked the idea because I am also figuring out my family tree now. It really is a good question if a kid is born that looks so dramatically different. I don't see why they were soooo embarrassed or weirded out by being black. I can understand your upset your mother had an affair, but it's weird that they look white and they're all: I am African American. Not really. You happen to have an African American ancestor. Which is something you can do nothing about. But I am not American so maybe we just see things differently. My blonde kid stands out next to my Middle-Eastern neighbors.
2 things were completely unnecessary for the plot, the conversation with the Iraqi guy (new people are being introduced and we never hear from them again), and the writer even thanks someone for helping her with Iraqi expressions. Wait, what? And the whole rich friend that isn't really rich thing was also a bit lame. And we never found out if the lawsuit against the senator was won...
